T-Splines for Rhino introduces new subdivision surface type workflows into Rhino's precision environment. These workflows, enjoyed for their rapid concept generation by animators, bring the same speed benefit to industrial design. And, for the first time, T-Splines makes them available in a NURBS-compatible, production quality way. Box modeling tools Box modeling or polygonal modeling is a method where the designer pushes or pulls on and extrudes basic shapes to quickly rough out a desired form. T-Spines makes this technique available for the first time in a NURBS compatible method. Box modeling can begin from a single primitive, like a cube, or by deriving a T-Spline model from polylines. - Extrude shapes: Modify your model by adding geometry and dragging faces, edges , or vertices.

- Local detail: Create local detail in a surface with no need to extend the detail across the whole surface.
- Control points: Add control points anywhere on the surface.
- Manipulator: fully control the extent and direction of extrusions of individual or groups of points and edges. Macros allow quick and easy selection of logical groups of surface points.
Complete shaping freedom - Create surfaces from curve networks: With T-Splines, you can easily make any organic shape, even with holes and non-rectangular boundaries, as a single surface from a network of input curves—without the need for additional fillets, blends, or trims. This single T-Splines surface is always gap-free regardless of complexity, smooth and curvature continuous where needed.
- Loft surfaces from any input curves: When you loft a T-Spline surface, your input curves can each be optimal for the curvature they are describing—you don't need to worry about how their control point count will interface with the control points of the other curves in the loft. T-Splines will isolate the detail and generate a surface with control points just where you need them.
- Create non-rectangular surfaces: Using simple T-Splines commands, it’s easy to generate non-rectangular surfaces if needed—something that’s not possible to do using NURBS.
- Build models from T-Splines primitives:Start with a sphere, cube, cylinder or torus as the basis for your model.

Detail and control only where you need it - Create single surfaces with varying level of detail: Keeping the number of control points to a minimum (to keep a smooth surface) is the first rule of modeling. T-Splines makes this easy to do, by letting you insert single control points instead of a whole row, as required in NURBS.
- Remove unnecessary control points: Simplify and improve editability of your models by removing control points where they are not required. Reduce the number of control points to control your shapes by up to 70%.
- Create local creases: Creating creases that only extend partway across the surface in NURBS is a complex process that involves snapping to curves, and can only be done on the edge of a surface. Local creasing is a trivial operation in T-Splines, and the entire surface remains easily editable.
Analysis and production-ready surface models - Merge NURBS patches: Import and merge NURBS patch models into a single T-Splines surface. Automatically repair gaps and create smooth transitions. Reduce the number of control points required to maintain your model by up to 70%.
- Import polygonal models: Import polygonal models from subdivision modelers and convert them to T-Splines surfaces.
- Export to NURBS: T-Splines surfaces are 100% bi-directionally compatible with NURBS and at any point in the design, you can convert your T-Splines model to a NURBS model for downstream analysis or manufacturing applications.
